Stoked Groms: Levi and Judah Mulder - surfers, board paddlers, volunteers to help others

In the third episode of Stoked Grom Stories we speak with Levi and Judah Mulder, two young men who enjoy a life in the cold ocean around Santa Cruz, California. We hear of the brothers surfing together, competing on the middle school surf team, and growing up steps from Steamer Lane with a great group of friends. Levi and Judah take us through their move from Chicago to Santa Cruz as young kids, their stories as Junior Lifeguards and both being on the fastest paddle relay teams in California. The boys share their stoke for helping disabled persons enjoy the ocean with their time volunteering with Ride A Wave, tell us a shark story, and do an amazing job handling the dreaded lightning round of grom questions. Great stuff from two great, young watermen.

Episode 57: Max Montgomery

Max Montgomery - Surfer, SUP, volunteer for others, heart attack survivor

In Episode 57 we speak with Max Montgomery, a surfer, diver, board paddler and man dedicated to helping others through ocean events. Max shares his stories of volunteering time for Ride A Wave and others that focus on getting persons with disabilities into the ocean. We hear of multiple events that Max has started himself including Paddle4Good and BestDay Foundation which continue to thrive around the USA. Max recounts an incredible story of a heart attack on the beach then surviving after 15+ minutes of no pulse with 6 defibrillator shocks and incredible hands-on effort from his wife-to-be and others on the beach. It’s an epic story… Max continues today to put full effort into helping others and shares his current project with the first-ever SUP film festival due in March 2019.

In Episode 2 of Stoked Grom Stories we talk with a legend-in-the-making, Jonah Susskind. Jonah takes us through his life of surfing and paddling in Santa Cruz, traveling and surfing the world in locations such as El Salvador and Samoa, and enjoying a strong crew of great friends in the water. We hear of Jonah paddling in the 12-mile Jay Moriarty Paddleboard Race at age 10, his pursuit of becoming a well rounded man of the water, volunteering his time to help less fortunate kids with Ride-A-Wave, and love for french fries over tater tots (!).

Jonathan Steinberg and Style for the Ages

In Episode #13 of This Ocean Life podcast we speak with Jonathan Steinberg, aka Steiny, a man of the surfmat who has kept his ocean life real since the 1960’s growing up in Southern California. Steiny shares his perspective on enjoying life riding waves and sharing his ocean experience with friends and family. Steiny gives us the low down on the forgotten art of wave riding on the surfmat and the ever-tranquil longboard kelp bed fishing. We also get inspired by hearing about the Ride-A-Wave foundation that takes any less fortunate or disabled person out for a day in the waves. This is a really fun epsiode with an amazing character and man of the ocean.
